Course Overview
The Advanced Open Water Diver course includes five adventure dives that give you a taste of different specialties while building confidence and skill underwater.
- Core Dives:
- Deep Dive (to 30 meters)
- Underwater Navigation Dive
- Elective Dives (examples):
- Wreck Dive or Night Dive
- Peak Performance Buoyancy
- Fish ID or Naturalist Dive

Prerequisites for Participation
- Minimum age: 12 years old (Junior Advanced Open Water certification available for ages 12–14)
- Must be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver (or equivalent from another recognized training agency)
- Reasonable health and physical fitness are required
- All participants must complete the PADI Medical Questionnaire (PDF)
- If any questions are answered “Yes,” a medical clearance from a doctor is required before diving
Note: Junior Advanced Open Water Divers (ages 12–14) are limited to a maximum depth of 21 meters (70 feet), and must dive with a certified adult diver. Upon turning 15, their certification automatically upgrades to the standard Advanced Open Water Diver certification.
Sample Schedule
- Day 1: 3 Adventure Dives (including Deep, Navigation and Night dive)
- Day 2: 2 remaining Adventure Dives + Certification processing
Please Note:
This course follows a performance-based structure — all knowledge, skills, and dives must be successfully completed in sequence. However, if your travel plans allow extra flexibility (such as additional nights on the island), we can adjust the schedule to better fit your needs.
For multi-day courses (e.g., Open Water, Advanced, Rescue), we recommend staying on Koh Phi Phi at least one night before your course begins. On the day before, we’ll complete paperwork, fit your rental gear, and provide a short orientation.
On the final day of your course, diving usually finishes by late morning or early afternoon. If your travel plans allow, it is possible to leave the island the same day — but please avoid booking ferries or speedboats too close to your final dive session.

Certain specialty dives such as the Night Dive can only be done once and may be scheduled on either Day 1 or Day 2, depending on conditions and availability.

Not included
National park fees totaling 800 THB per person are not included in the course price. These fees are collected in cash at the pier by the Department of National Parks (DNP) officers before each boat trip and support the conservation of the Phi Phi Marine Park.

Flying after diving:
After a morning trip, you must wait at least 18 hours before flying, starting from 11:00 AM
After an afternoon trip, you must wait at least 18 hours before flying, starting from 4:00 PM
